Riverside Academy East

Our Academy is placed in a diversely rich community. We provide students with opportunities to explore their potential and become involved and knowledgeable citizens that give back to their communities. In addition to offering a strong curriculum, students have the opportunity to learn a second language, join academic clubs and more! Curriculum

Riverside Academy East’s curriculum is sufficiently broad to allow students the opportunity to study a range of subjects including: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Arabic Language, Science, Social Studies, PE, Technology, Art and Music. We go above the standards to challenge students and prepare them with a 21st Century Education!

GSRP Preschool

                        The Great Start Readiness Program is Michigan's state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children who may be at risk of educational failure. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Great Start. Visit the Early Childhood Website for more information!

About Our Principal

Principal Layla Shalabi

Education:
Ms. Shalabi received a Bachelor’s Degree in Language, Literature and Writing in 2009 with a secondary teaching endorsement from Eastern Michigan University.   In 2013, she pursued a Master’s Degree in K-12 Educational Leadership, which she obtained in 2016, also at EMU.  

Experience:
Ms. Shalabi began her educational career at Riverside Academy West in 2009 as a high school language arts teacher.   She spent five years teaching before becoming a Middle School Academic Coordinator in 2013.  The following year, Ms. Shalabi was transferred to Riverside Academy East, serving as an Assessment Coordinator until 2019.  In 2020, after many years of experience and professional development, she accepted a position as principal of Riverside Academy East.   

Philosophy:
Ms. Shalabi’s educational philosophy is based on her belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong leadership, a committed educational team, and a supportive family.   Ms. Shalabi believes in a proactive approach to improve school safety and promote positive behavior.  By creating a positive and safe culture for learning, all students will succeed.
